It was a very hot day yesterday, can't tell how hot but it makes Wahyu and Putra up for swim for almost 4 hours :p. In the morning they do ask our permission to swim until wrinkles show up in their hands hahaha...

Painting children in a public area like a swimming pool is a tricky. Need a bit imagination and a large amount of patience. Using canson fabriano 250gsm with watercolor  i tried to catch their activities in the pool.  The technique is quite simple actually. For each object we need to catch in our mind, which movement that mostly shows up in one child that eyes can catch. Then, draw it eith our imagination and experience in drawing himan.

Kid at age 6-7 years old has enormous energy to spend everyday. One beautiful holiday with them has prove it. On regular basis for me 15km is a no-sweat-track that can be easily through. But for them who don't cycling much will gives trouble on my prediction.

More painting of the faces

Menggunakan cat air demikian menyenangkan. Makin menyenangkan ketika klien memberi saya kebebasan menggunakan teknik apapun (yang sebenarnya baru saya pelajari atau temukan seiring belajar) dalam lukisan yang mereka pesan.

Using watercolour has been a very pleasant activity. Even more fun when clients give me freedom to use any kind of technique (that actually I've just learn) in their order.

Lukisan pertama lebih banyak mengunakan teknik wet on dry lapis demi lapis sehingga mendapatkan warna yang tajam serta relatif lebih mudah dikerjakan namun agak memakan waktu.

First painting most of the process using a wet on dry technique Layer-by-layer to get a darkerand sharp color. Easier to do but a bit takes time.

Lukisan kedua agak sulit, pertama, karena pemesannya adalah wartawan foto AFP Perancis yang sangat peka estetika; kedua, arena beliau membebaskan saya (lho?) Karena dengan begitu saya harus menebak seleranya. Menggunakan teknik sapuan wet on wet bahkan lebih lama karena jarang dibiasakan (namun teknik ini menyenangkan, percayalah) tone sephia membuatnya terasa klasik mendekati keindahan hasil foto sang wartawan.

second painting a bit difficult, not because the technique but more to the client which is a photographer that have a very good sense of art and he sets free me in guessing his "flavor" .
Using wet-on-wet is a real fun. More difficult but combined with sephia tone makes it closer with the photos that he produce :)

Painting the face need patience and a bit accuracy. I usually start with the silhouette of the object, and then slowly move to the major details. In watercolor, after silhouettes we can work on the shadow first to determine the direction of the light then the details

It  is strongly recomended to use photo  with strong light.  Will be easier to paint

a meeting sometimes makes some of us feel bored. Especially if we dont understand the materials, L.O.L. But, whether understand or no it depends on our willingness to pay attention.
So, i sketch right after the material had completed presentated, since i represent our director in these meeting.

sketchtour: Samarinda

november 2012, there's a sport competition in Samarinda. The team needs me to ensure healthcare of athletes. Samarinda is capital city of east Borneo lies around mahakam river.
My assignment now takes about 6 days, supervise about 5 sport activities (chess, tennis, table tennis, badminton, futsal) not an easy work since they play in different places and sometimes at the same time.

this is the restaurant "tangga Arung" that we use for breakfast and lunch. in the evening the restaurant is closed. the food is delicious  (12 November 2012)

it was a very pleasant day, our volley ball and tennis team won gold medals..in the night we celebrate it in a cafe. (samarinda)

mr. Koestomo, one of our chess player was sleeping on the bus on the way home to Balikpapan, east Borneo (drawing paper+ drawing pen 0.1mm)

all these drawing are processed with drawing pen 0.1 and drawing paper (faber castell), the paper is less rough than canson sketchbook, so it takes little time to adapt to sketch on this brand new paper. the ideas of live sketch is different than when we sketch based on photos or 2 D materials.
in live sketch we learn a lot about depth and how to simplify it through lines. and this is very important basic for student at early degree of education.

a (sudden) trip to bali

09 august, i was ordered to go to Bali by director in order to attend a seminar about hospital development. For me it's another additional sketch travel for my collection:). The seminar was take place at Hotel Mercure Kuta, Bali from 10-12 August 2012 about new paradigma of how a hospital must be in the future. A hospital with more orientation to the comfort of the patient through many additional way of services that takes cooperation from many units in the hospital.

the travel starts by speedboat leaving from Nunukan about 2 hours to Tarakan. Not a convenient one especially for sketchers:))...very bumpy in the middle of the sea. But, for practice it's difficulty is very challenging.

arrive in Tarakan about 10 am, we went to airport and wait for our next flight by Lion Air at 02.30 pm. A bit chance to take a small nap at the airport and on the plane (about 2 hours to Surabaya) since it was very exhausting take a speedboat to travel.

we leave Surabaya for Kuta, Bali about 5.35 pm it takes about 1.5 hour to get there, arrive at the hotel about 8.45 pm over the traffic jam and late for the opening:)

It was Romadhon while the travel take place, so i was not visit many places at the time unless the place that i really want to go to: the location of garuda wisnu kencana...i was a little dissapointed there since the place seems not well organized after local government took over the management from a private company. I really hope this place will be much better next time i go here.

In Bali i've met one of my old best friend, Gde Ada, which i see him now more big than the last time i saw him and of course he still a positive man:) i admire him for this.. I formerly live in Denpasar in 1995 and he was my classmate.

watercolor a suicide art tool:D

this month, is a very hectic month.. visited by a hospital supervision team from Jakarta. Asking so many question about our progress to get certificate of services. I sketch one of supervisor, dr. Etty Sumiyati after examination at my section completed.

next several days, after observing many watercolor work from many advance artists, i try to learn it using George Clooney picture. I always say watercolor is a suicide art tool since its very hard to control, and oftenly worsen a nice sketch.

A meeting can be boring I try to overcome that condition by sketching a few characters during the meeting. Actually it’s not a boring meeting at all, discussion about food safety in Nunukan.:D

Once again, my job takes me to Jakarta, an annual short course about government public relation. It's all about how to manage things related to media and institution's (bad) news so it won't misinterpreted.

19 December 2011, once again, my job takes me out of Nunukan, this time Balikpapan (east Borneo) is the destination. About 45 government employee in a group need medical supervision. But for me it's another sketch tour :)

11 December, i was asked to be a drawing competition's jury by BNI'46 Nunukan, a branch of one of the biggest national bank in Indonesia. It was about 600 children had followed the competition divided into three group of categories in order to celebrate the bank's 55th anniversary.
